Sampoorna
Sampoorna-Model social development project for the holistic development of persons and families with disabilities is designed by FUTURE INDIA FOUNDATION , a NGO working for sustainable development project social development sector in partnership with Panchayat Raj Institutions.
Future India Foundation has designed this project for Nemom Block Panchayat, in Trivandrum, Kerala, India to improve the living conditions and social dignity of persons with special needs and establish an innovative program for INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT and INCLUSIVE SOCIETY.
Sampoorna is designed as a CBR project to address the physical , mental ,medical ,economic and social needs of the lesser privileged sections of the society in the suburbs of Trivandrum city,in the capital of Kerala, the southern state in India, to address the complex needs of entire population –from child to senior citizen living with disability.
As per the Censes report of 2001,there are around 100000 disabled in Trivandrum district itself. Based on this report it is assumed that there will be around 7000 disabled among 50000 families living with in the Block panchayat.
Future India Foundation, with the support of anaganwadi workers, literacy workers and community volunteers could identity around 5000 persons (child to aged) with different level of disabilities and could visit them at their houses to assess their living conditions and the pain and plight of such families to lead a normal and decent life . This include visual impaired, Mentally challenged, physically handicapped, persons affected with CP , deaf and dump .
During 2007-08, we could conduct 6 medical camps to assess the medical needs of around 2000 disabled.From the realities of these medical camps it was decided to design a more disability specific and disabled friendly medical program to address the medical needs of people who are unattended for many years on their special health needs due to their plight in life.
